My journey with Creative Wigs started in 1957, when I was working as a chemist, with a shop on Swanston st.
One day, a door-to-door salesman walked into my shop, selling samples of little clip-on ponytails. I had never seen these before and thought they would be an interesting addition to the chemist shop. Surprisingly, they flew out the door! So, I got more and eventually those ponytails turned into wigs and other hairpieces as well!I soon decided to opened a small pop-up shop a few doors down (whilst I was still working as a chemist), in the exact building we’re in today.
Our business is such an unusual one, I absolutely love it!
There was an obvious gap in the market for ready-to-go hairpieces in Australia (and as I later discovered, the world) and the 60’s was the perfect time to get started. I then sold my chemist and went into the wig business full time. This decision would soon change my life.
My first step when starting the wig business was writing to every hairdresser in Australia – 6500 shops! Sent them price lists and pictures of our products. I brought two girls from the chemist shop with me who went out to all the hairdressers in town showing our products.
Today, all these years later, our wigs travel far and wide.
Through my experience and involvement with clients and those behind the scenes around the world, I have been able to give my advice and opinions on how to improve wigs.
As time went on, my input on design and the way wigs were made, was utilised and wigs began to change and move with the times. Wigs today really are incredible!
Our business is such an unusual one, I absolutely love it. The people I meet here are extraordinary. I love meeting and chit chatting with our mixed bag of clients. But more than that, I love that we’re able to help them. We really have that something for everyone.
Through my 59 years working in this business and industry, I can truly say, I have had the most incredible life, I have done and been a part of things that I would never have imagined and helped changed people’s lives along the way.
I think my greatest achievement, though, is having been able to create a business that is still going for my family. Three generations come to work here every day. I couldn’t do it without my amazing family and incredibly loyal staff.
